  Wadi Bih Adventure Race 6th Jan 2012

The second Wadi Bih MTB & Adventure Race was held on Friday 6th January 2012 in the Musandam mountains of Oman starting from Dibba.

We had a great turnout of about 110 people who came to escape the urban mayhem of the cities of the UAE to experience the call of the fresh mountain weather and the great outdoors

There had been strong winds for a few days prior to the event and this had raised some dust and sand in the air, reducing visibility.  However on the race day the dust had generally subsided and we had good weather with stable high-pressure and clear blue skies.  The lack of any rainfall to date this winter meant that the track was very dusty which was an added challenge to the participants.  However these conditions were preferable to a flash flood which could have washed out the Wadi!

The event could not take place without the input of help from a number of companies organisations and individuals that all deserve many thanks.

The Golden Tulip Hotel in Dibba has been the host for the event on the second year and has a long association of supporting the Wadi Bih Run.  A big thanks to Elie Jabbour and his team of; Rupesh, Arthur and others for helping with the facilities set up at the hotel and providing the buffet after the event to the participants.  The Hotel kindly provided room vouchers and meal tokens as prizes for the winners.  For more details about the hotel please check out;

This year we had 3 events and we needed a number of marshals to be on the course to record times and give guidance to participants.  Paul Oliver, Ram, Karen and other members of Absolute Adventure did a great job manning the checkpoints and recording the times.  Absolute adventure also provided some free tokens for outdoor activities from their centre based in Dibba.  We should not forget Mike from absolute adventure who was the safety kayaker and also set the marker bouys for the swim.  To find out more about the activities and accommodation that absolute adventure can provide please check out their website

Adrian Holman and Rodel from Pro-bike did a great job on the events providing last-minute servicing to mountain bikes.  You can check out more about pro-bike at

Adventure HQ did a great job this year helping us with the promotion of the events and the preparation of the event T-shirts and signage.  They also provided support on the day with a great start & finish inflatable arch.  Sam and Dave from adventure HQ also took part in the event.  To find out more about adventure HQ please check out their website;

A big thank you to Helen Rodd for maintaining the website for the event and providing some rational sane advice.

Louise Galbraith is a stalwart supporter of both the Wadi Bih run and the Wadi Adventure race and a big thank you is due to Louise and specially for all the help on Thursday and Friday

Wolf's bike shop provided us with some biking accessories as prizes for the winners - a big thank you Wolfi for this;

A big thank you to Ian Ganderton who helped us out at the registration, at the last minute , to mark-up participants numbers as we were short staffed.

We introduced a new event this year which, a thirty kilometre out and back cycle which proved a success and encouraged some mountain bikers and less competitive extreme mountain bikers into the Wadi.  There was picked up at the finish of this event is as the riders returned before the marshals expected we're not quite sure who the winner was.  Anyway there were prizes of a similar value to the first and second place.

The one thousand metre hill climb event was held for the second year and the previous course record was broken with by four riders.  The gradient is fairly steady in the Wadi until just before the end when there are a series of steep hairpin bends which is a brutal test of stamina and injure rents.

A new route had been selected for the adventure race and is A competitors were given something of a navigational challenge having to hike over some rough Touraine to check points before descending the parts of the road and then continuing down the Wadi foray refreshing dip in the Gulf of Oman on prior to finishing

Congratulations to all of the participants.  We hope you enjoy the event and if you have any comments or suggestions or ideas through improvements to the future events please let us know.
